This is how my father, a Great Russian artist of Soviet Era Leonid Steele, began my formal lessons at age six. I always look at the great outdoors as my constant laboratory to study basic principles of our art form - compositional harmony of forms and shapes, the relation of values and colors in all their infinite variations as they defined by real-life light and space. Plain Air is always a great testing ground for my various visual and technical ideas. "
